We will travel to Vienna, Austria, where Sigmund Freud established his "talking cure." We will learn about the Austrian region in the mid-late 19th century, the practices surrounding mental health treatment at the time, the life and beliefs of Sigmund Freud, and the evolution of psychotherapy over time. We’ll apply Freud’s theory to real-life psychotherapy case examples, and also critique them from the point of view of alternative modern approaches to mental health treatment.
